There has been significant research in to the provision of reliable initial-login user authentication, however there is still a need for continuous authentication during a user session. This paper presents a series of results from the preliminary statistical analysis of multi-application keystroke data. This has been contrasted with a Data Mining approach to the production of a unique user profile. This paper aims to determine which approach provides the best basis for further research. It is determined that the technique offers promise as a discriminator between individuals in an operational context, but further investigation with larger data sets is required with a combination of approaches being considered in order to improve the accuracy.
